Why does my 48V battery charge up to 54V?

Modified on Wed, 26 Oct, 2022 at 5:20 PM

A battery’s claimed voltage is a nominal measurement - the actual voltage output from the battery depends on a number of factors. Depending if is under charge or fully charged, it can be 10 or 20% higher depending on the chemistry.

When discharging gently the voltage may be somewhat below nominal, as many batteries don’t have flat discharge curves.

It happens the same with the wattage of e-scooters, it could be a 600 W scooter with a peak of 900 W.
